Groundwater Sustainability

Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA)

The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) went into effect on January 1, 2015.

SGMA requires medium and high-priority groundwater basins in the state to be managed by local agencies that have formed a Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) by June 30, 2017.

The Solano Subbasin GSA is required to draft a sustainability plan for groundwater in the Solano Subbasin. The final draft of the Solano Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Plan was submitted to the State of California for approval on January 27, 2022. An approval for the plan was announced on January 18, 2024.

The Solano Subbasin is classified as a medium priority. The DRCD Board is staying informed about the process to help disseminate important information to its constituents.
